Personal safety equipment. Emergency equipment. Basic rules of the road. Helmsmanship and sailing, basic principals. ->top Day Skipper inshore navigation, pilotage, boat handling under sail and power. The starting level of this course assumes previous practical experience to Competent Crew standard and a thorough knowledge of the Day Skipper shorebased syllabus. • • • • • • • Navigation, chartwork, position fixing, tides and tidal streams. Pilotage, leaving and entering harbour. Deck work, anchoring and mooring, alongside berthing. Emergency situations, MOB recovery, use of liferaft and flares. Handling under power. Handling under sail. Passage planning. ->top Coastal Skipper inshore and offshore navigation, pilotage, and offshore skippering techniques. The starting level of this course assumes previous practical experience to Day Skipper standard with at least 300 miles logged, two days as skipper and a thorough knowledge of the Coastal Skipper shorebased syllabus. • • • • • • • Navigation, offshore passage making practice. Pilotage including night sailing. Passage making, organisation of deskwork and domestic duties. Handling under power, effective control in confined spaces. Handling under sail, mooring and anchoring. This has the benefit of improving your own boat handling and can be extremely cost effective if there are two or more students taking the course. Yachtmaster Preparatory A seven day course with the last two days being reserved for assessment by an independent examiner, which we can arrange for the candidate on a date mutually convenient for the examiner and the candidate. ->top
