We are also members of the National Federation of Sea Schools, an organisation dedicated to achieving and maintaining the highest standards from its membership, both from a safety and educational consideration. Our aim is to provide friendly, informal tuition and to encourage our students to gain maximum benefit from a “hands on” experience whilst aboard our vessels. The school Principal and Chief Instructor is Stan Roberts, an Ocean Yachtmaster Instructor and Yachtmaster Examiner, with a lifetimes experience in many different types of sailing craft. Following several years of running charter cruises and sailing courses throughout the Irish Sea and the near continent, Stan and his fellow instructors are well equipped to understand and explain the potential problems that novice crews are likely to encounter The basic function of the school is to provide tuition in seamanship, navigation and cruising under sail but during summer months we also offer skippered charter for sailing experience and cruising holidays. We are based in North Wales at Port Dinorwic, a small harbour situated on the shores of the Menai Strait about halfway between Bangor and Caernarfon. The coastline of North Wales is an area of outstanding natural beauty, nestling under the mountain ranges of Snowdonia. The island of Anglesey lies just across the water offering many secluded anchorages with perfect shelter and an ideal opportunity to view the extensive variety of coastal wildlife. Seals, all species of sea birds and the occasional family of dolphins are our constant companions. An exceptionally picturesque coastline, many hazards and a considerable tidal range, all blend to produce the best training ground in the British Isles and the perfect introduction to a sailors learning curve.
